Lecturers of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Malikussaleh University, through the Community Service Program introduced innovative seafood processed products to the women of Gampong Pusong Lama, Banda Sakti District, Lhokseumawe City. The innovation of processed seafood products aims to increase knowledge about the diversity of processed seafood around the Pusong Lama community.

The head of the Community Service Team, Likdanawati, M.Si, said that so far, barracuda fish or pestle fish have only been made by the community as side dishes or as salted fish. Even though there is a lot of barracuda fish found by fishermen in the Pusong area.

This condition made several lecturers at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Malikussaleh University to train residents on innovative seafood products, including making empek-empek and kemplang/crackers with the price of the fish still very cheap and easy to obtain.

The training on seafood processing, which was held on Monday (22/11/2021), was attended by 35 participants, all of whom consisted of mothers at the Pusong Lama Community Activity Center. These housewives were given material on how to make processed seafood using barracuda fish or pestle with other ingredients such as tapioca flour, eggs, garlic, salt, and sugar.

"The manufacturing process is very easy, by stirring the ingredients slowly so that when formed the results are neat and soft," said Likdanawati, who was accompanied by two members of the service team, Cut Melita Putri, M.Si and Hamdiah, M.Si.

A citizen, Kasmani, mother, gave a positive response. According to him, this activity is very good and suitable for women on the coast of Gampong Pusong so that they can improve their skills in processing marine products. Likdanawati hopes that mothers who have attended the training can make processed fish products well and have a selling value so that they can help the family economy.[]
